Artist Statement
This series Yoniverse, draws its focus and inspiration from honouring the Giver of Life (Yoni – is a Sanskrit word that has been interpreted to literally mean the womb, the female genitalia, regarded as a divine symbol of sexual pleasure and matrix of generation. the divine eternal process of creation and regeneration, and the union of the feminine and the masculine that recreates all of existence).
I was inspired of my experience living in an active volcano island, where I witnessed many times the growing of the island, through lava, the blood of the earth. The process gives a synergetic union between both male and female.
Connecting the creation of life of the volcano with the women channel of life, I dedicated these series
The notion for these creative pieces was drawn from time in my life when I was travelling in… and the energiesand the sublimity of the Volcano spoke to me in ways about creation and destruction. Life and death. The process of completion and beginnings.
That memoir stood with me and fused these physical manifestations of my inspirations.
The use of mixed media was my understanding of to see it in different perspectives, giving an iconic feature.
Honouring the vulva/vagina and reclaiming negative connotations surrounding the female genitalia
